A striking jumping spider with metallic coloration and a beautiful sheen, Cosmophasis micarioides is one of Australia's most visually spectacular jumping spiders. One of the most distinctive behaviours seen in Cosmophasis is the abdomen (tail) bopping. These spiders rhythmically move their abdomens up and down as they move around. Micarioides are a active, alert and curious species that is found from Northern New South Wales all the way up the east coast of Queensland and throughout the top end of the Northern Territory. Size range is commonly 5-7mm.
JUMP LAB NOTES
- Enclosure type is arboreal. Minimum dimensions 20cm x 12m x 12cm
- Primary substrate layer Coco peat
- Enrichment should be concentrated across the entirety of the enclosure
- Feeding cups recommended
- Prey-to-body size ratio should be 1:4 up to 1:2 minus legs - feeding on crickets
- Aim to maintain around 50-75% humidity (higher end summer, lower end winter)
