Maratus volans is a small and striking jumping spider commonly referred to as a Peacock spider. This species is best known for the mature male’s brilliantly coloured abdominal fan and elaborate courtship display. Its distribution covers parts of Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria, where individuals may be found among leaf litter and on dry fallen twigs. Adults generally reach approximately 3–5mm in body length. Maratus volans are active and sociable in captivity. If taking on a mature male, please be aware that they naturally have shorter lifespans.

- Primary substrate layer Coco peat
- Sticks/bark/leaf litter/assorted ground furnishings
- Enrichment should be concentrated across the entirety of the enclosure
- Prey-to-body size ratio 1:4 up to 1:1 minus legs
- Feeding on pinhead crickets
- Well lit conditions while ensuring appropriate hiding places are provided
- No specialised humidity requirements. Moderate ambient humidity with regular light misting
